George Carey Primary School is a very popular and successful school with a long waiting list.

How to Apply (Reception – Year 6)

You can apply for children to come to George Carey Church of England Primary School by visiting the Admissions Team at Barking One Stop Shop in the Learning Centre, Barking IG11 7NB or Dagenham Library, the Heathway, RM10 9QQ.   Please note that all admissions other than Nursery, are dealt with by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

Waiting List – Nursery

Parents may place their child on the Nursery waiting list by completing a green form, available from the school office and providing their child’s birth certificate or passport and proof of address. When a space is available, you will be contacted by telephone and a home visit will be arranged previous to your child starting the Nursery. The Nursery waiting list is arranged by the school.

Admissions to Reception

The admissions process for securing a Reception place usually starts as early as November in the year before the child starts school. All admissions to and between schools within the Local Authority, including starting Reception, is administered “centrally” by the Local Authority’s Admissions Team. Parents wanting a place in the school should complete the relevant documentation and return it to the Local Authority or apply on-line. Help and advice will be provided to parents/carers by the school. We must emphasise that a place in the nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception.

Admission Criteria

If there are no more requests for places at school than the number it can admit, then the Local Authority is able to admit all children that need places. Where there are more applicants than places, the Local Authority is required to have admission criteria for deciding which requests are agreed and which are refused. The admission criteria are as follows:-

  1. “Looked after children”
  2. Children who have a sibling already attending George Carey Church of England Primary School
  3. Children who live closest to the school.

Children to whom it is not possible to offer a place are put on the waiting list. The waiting list is managed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. This list is updated every term, so parents need to reapply at the end of each term if their children are to remain on the waiting list.

When your child starts at George Carey Church of England Primary School, you need to provide your child’s birth certificate or passport, a Council Tax bill and two utility bills that are no more than 3 months old. (This can be a gas, electric, TV licence or a water bill. Mobile phone bills are not acceptable.)
